LEGAL INFORMATION
A Notice of Intended Marriage must be completed no less than one month and one day before the date of the Marriage (Australian version of a Marriage Licence). A Declaration by both parties to the Marriage also needs to be completed. If your partner is overseas the resident party can execute the Notice of Intended Marriage. Department of Births, Deaths & Marriages can agree to a shortening of time, but only in special circumstances. I have all forms for your convenience.
You need to provide to me for sighting an Original Birth Certificate in English (document translations by Accredited Translators are permitted) or Pass Port - not Cancelled (if expired not expired by more than 2 years). If producing Birth Certificate only, then you must also produce Photo ID, ie: Drivers' Licence. If previously married you need to produce Original Certificate of Divorce in English. Original Certificate of Death is required, in English, if a former spouse is deceased. You should both be over the age of 18 years. Under 18 years (special conditions apply).
Commitment Ceremonies: by Law, we cannot use the words: Husband, Wife, Spouse. The Ceremony must contain the words: this Ceremony is not a Marriage Ceremony.
Relationships Australia & Centacare Family Services provide Relationship Building Courses. By Law I must inform you that such Courses are available, however, by Law it is not mandatory that you attend such a Course.
